Holiday Sex:

We know making time for nookie in regular life with all the demands of family and children can be challenging. Now, take children on holiday with the added stress of a new place, weird foods, biting insects and not having their normal routine; you might end up with a less than steamy vacay with your partner.  And just imagine if you’re also taking the grandparents!

If you can recall the time in your history before children or maybe even having a steady partner (close your eyes tightly and really dream about those moments), holidays may have been a breeding ground for raucous and racy times.

Nearly three quarters of women say their sex life heats up while on holiday with their partner. We’d love to see a new stat next year that says three quarters of parents holidaying with their children had hot times.

This blog is here to help you create moments of connection, stoke the embers and plain old get down and dirty while on holiday with your cherubs.

Some general considerations for anyone getting away with or without children are:

Always pack your favourite lubricant and make sure it is 100ml or less if you’re flying and only taking carry-on luggage. Lube should be on every nightstand, even when staying in a hotel.

Ladies; pack a few pieces of lingerie which make you feel good about yourself. Often women feel sultry while on holiday when our bodies are bronzed and well relaxed.

Make a commitment with your partner that while away neither of you will work. Keep computers and phone scrolling to a minimum. You could even challenge each other to only use the phone for taking photos (maybe the lingerie comes in handy for this!!).

When you arrive at your destination really pause and allow your senses to be stimulated. Feel the freshness of your new surroundings and allow it to titillate you.

Find ways to keep it simmering during the day – rub sun cream on each other, hold hands, whisper hot things to each other during the day, show lots of flesh, find cheeky ways to touch each other throughout the day and make a point to give each other verbal appreciations.

Stay curious about your partner. Don’t assume you know everything about them even if you’ve been together for donkeys’ years or even if you’re holidaying in the same place you do every year. Being curious allows us to be with our partner in a novel way and this keeps us interested in each other.

Enjoy your food and drink AND be mindful that eating heavily or having too much alcohol could foil your intimate plans for the evening after children are in bed.

How you get frisky will also depend whether you’re staying in a hotel type environment or camping.

If you’re staying in a hotel or similar these next ideas are for you.

Consider taking an all inclusive holiday where there are different fun activities, camps or workshops put on for the children during the day to give you some grown-up alone time. Daytime romping can be very exhilarating because you’re both less likely to be tired from the sun or a full day of chasing kids.

When staying in a hotel, where possible try to get two adjoining rooms. Once children are asleep you could lock the middle door until you’ve finished with your forays (cue the lingerie time).

If you have young ones who still nap this could be a golden moment for some quiet rendezvous time; use the bathroom or balcony if you have to!

If you’re going for the fresh air and nature option like camping then these next points are for you.

Camping can be challenging for coitus but it doesn’t have to be.

If you can, choose a campsite that isn’t too busy. However, if it’s heaving you’ll have to be mindful that all your tent neighbours will be able to hear you – maybe you don’t mind, but it could also explain any envious looks you get the next morning.

If you are sharing the tent and your children are in close proximity to your sleeping area some sneaky maneuvers may be needed. You can both still act like teenagers by groping, fondling and using oral sex instead of the full monty.

You may have to be creative with your positions as the space is limited and you might not have the luxury of soft padding for knees. Try and keep a fun and lighthearted approach and giggle off any positions that clearly don’t work.

Last tent tip is to remember to keep the lanterns or torches off. If you have tent neighbours they could experience a very interesting shadow show.

The biggest thing to remember is that sex does not have to equal penetration. You can enjoy your partner and their body in a multitude of ways. Your holiday this year could be a great way to begin expanding your definition of sex and reconnecting with your loved one.

Enjoy!
