Self-Care September

We’re going to go out on a limb and say something that might seem a bit radical, but hear us out.

Ready?

Sex toys are the ultimate self-care purchase.

Your response might be to giggle and blush at such a thought or maybe you’d like to yell blasphemous remarks and wax lyrical about your bubble baths or maybe you finally feel vindicated.

We’re not just saying this because we are a sexual wellbeing company, science is also on our side.

Using sex toys or having sex is a perfectly healthy form of stress relief. When we engage in sexual activity, alone or partnered our bodies release oxytocin when we orgasm. This is the world’s best anti-stress hormone that makes us feel warm and fuzzy. Dopamine (a neurotransmitter) also rolls in which is great for regulating our sleep.

TENGA’s 2019 Self Pleasure Report, which surveyed 10,000 people across nine countries found that 74% of respondents use masturbation as a form of self-care, while 54% say it improves their mental wellbeing.

If you’re still on the fence about sex toys being the ultimate self-care acquistion, research from the National Institute of Health has also found that the release of oxytocin could help strenthen our immune system.

It is of course no surprise that during these months of COVID duress that sex toy sales have skyrocketed, in some countries by 300%!

As your self-care sexual wellbeing advocates we can’t stress enough the importance of empowering yourself with self intimacy, whether that is with a sex toy or not, knowing your desires and your body is the most important relationship to foster and nurture. Thus it is true self-care.
